Resolution This is expressed by the number of horizontal pixels on the sensor multiplied by the number of vertical pixels. Simplified the greater amount of pixels the better the quality of picture.
Zoom Digital zoom magnifies the centre of a picture to zoom closer to your choice subject. Although this makes the centre of the picture appear larger, it does reduce the overall quality because digital zoom makes up (or 'interpolates') pixels to produce the larger image.
Optical zoom always produces a higher quality end result than digital zoom due to the telescopic 'lens'. The image is magnified by the lens, rather than 'interpolated' by the camera, which gives superior results than digital zoom.
Print Size The size of the print you wish to achieve is a major consideration when choosing the right camera for you. A higher resolution would be required if you wanted to achieve a good quality, larger image. Please see the guide below to help with your choice.
